Giving an example which i gave to one of our Friends...
Dont go for Global Filter but instead try RKFs.
Create the below RKF's ,where you will have all the Four Chars.
Say, RKF 1 = Doc Type A NE NA * KF1+0
RKF 2 = Doc Type B NE NA * KF2+0
RKF 3 = Doc Type C NE NA * KF3+0
RKF 4 = Doc Type D NE NA * KF4+0
RKF5 = RKF1+RKF2+RKF3+RKF4
You hide all other RKFs except RKF5.
